What are your pre-period & period essentials & rituals?
I adore ritualizing all parts of my cycle because each version of myself deserves to be listened to and honored. My favorite pre-period ritual is to spend more time in reflection by journaling. This part of my cycle is when I find my shadows and triggers are loud, and I’ve surrendered to giving them space to exist. As for essentials, I find it supportive to balance this mental reflection, with a focus on moving the energy physically. I prioritize gentle yoga, walking, and sweating in a sauna. Additionally, I use the Tutti Moon Oil on my breasts and womb every night before bed. It works like magic for eliminating any sore breasts or light cramping that I experience especially 48 hours before my bleed.
When my period arrives, it feels like a deep breath. I know this isn’t the case for many women, and I don’t take that for granted. I am so grateful that my period is a time of peace. As soon as I bleed, I love to bathe and celebrate the occasion. A bathtub full of water from my mineral ion shower filter, roses and rosemary from the garden, beeswax candles lit, some incense, and complete silence. I am also synced up with a couple of my closest friends, so we always text each other right away. It’s very sweet, especially considering one of these friends lives on the other side of the world. We are always connected. My essentials from there on are ceremonial grade cacao every morning, the Tutti Body Oil to keep myself soft, and limiting the amount of media I consume. This is the time for me to be in my energy, and not focus on creating or consuming, but just being.
Describe the Moon Oils scent, texture and how it makes you feel
My intention with using the Tutti Moon Oil is to support my breasts and womb from any soreness or pain and to get in the habit of admiring my sacred vessel. I love to do this in front of a mirror, and romanticize it all, rather than rushing through this step.
The Tutti Moon Oil is grounding, protective, and clarifying. It smells like a hug from a great-grandmother you’ve never met, but have felt walking alongside you your whole life. The color is a deep green that anchors me into my body immediately, and the application feels soft and potent.
What would you want your younger self OR other women to know about your period and body?
To women everywhere, who find themselves resenting parts of their cycle – I know you. I understand you. I was you. The world we live in only celebrates women in their post-bleed / follicular phase and their fertile / ovulation phase. The world only celebrates women who are light, fun, and creative. The women who can eat less and work out more. The women who are a bit more malleable, and less emotional. The second we move into pre-bleed / luteal, the facade drops. Our rose-colored glasses are off, and we can see what we did not before, in ourselves and the world. And the world is afraid of being called out. Perhaps, we are afraid of what we will have to face when we call ourselves out. We mistake it for inconvenience when that is our medicine. The ability to go deeper. There is sacred truth, rage, and accountability that is begging to have a voice inside of you. Listen to her. Befriend her. Move away from shaming her, and FEEL. The more you feel the less heavy it will be to carry. I pray that you stop viewing all your 4 phases as an inconvenience and as a monthly medicine journey. I love all parts of you, and I hope one day you will too.
Your connection with the Moon ~ What phase do you currently bleed with?
I feel such a deep connection to the moon. Anytime I think about how women’s cycles align with the cycles of the moon, I get chills. She is our guide, and it is an honor to be the timekeeper alongside her. I bleed with the full moon, which is the red witch moon cycle. This is said to be a cycle for highly intuitive women, which I resonate with.
